Nikon, Inc. has introduced a new PC-E Micro NIKKOR 85mm f/2.8D ED lens. Perspective Control (PC) lenses correct linear distortion in order to better replicate images as seen by the human eye, including straightening the converging lines of rectilinear objects such as buildings, while also allowing control over depth-of-field. As a medium telephoto lens, the PC-E Micro NIKKOR 85mm f/2.8D ED can be used for applications that include photographing architecture, nature, interiors, and portraits.

As with other NIKKOR-E lenses, the PC-E Micro NIKKOR 85mm f/2.8D ED incorporates a rounded nine-blade electromagnetic diaphragm that provides auto aperture control when used with Nikon SLRs that feature an electronically controlled aperture, including the D3, D300 and newly announced D700 camera.

Nikon has just announced an updated version of its Nikkor AF-S DX 55-200 mm lens. The new AF-S DX VR 55-200 mm f/4.0-f/5.6G IF-ED has a Silent Wave Motor for fast and quiet focusing, ED glass lens element and most importantly optical Vibration Reduction (VR). The new lens has 3.6x zoom and delivers an equivalent field of view of 82.5-300 mm when used on a DX digital SLR (1.5x FOV crop).

Nikon USA has just announced the new D40x digital SLR. The D40x maintains the same compact size, portability and ease-of-use as the popular D40 model, and adds features such as higher 10.2MP resolution, faster continuous shooting capability and wider ISO sensitivity. The D40x's 10.2-effective megapixel CCD imaging sensor is complimented by Nikon's exclusive 3D Color Matrix Metering II and an improved Nikon Image Processing Engine that together ensure high picture quality with accurate exposure, refined details and natural, accurately rendered colors.

The Nikon D40x virtually eliminates the frustrations of shutter delay typically associated with point-and-shoot digital cameras. The D40x powers-up in a near-instant 0.18 second and can shoot up to 3 pictures per second, non-stop for up to 100 shots. The images are immediately recorded to the camera’s SD memory card. In addition to shooting three consecutive shots per second (versus 2.5 pictures per second with the D40), the D40x also features design efficiencies that allows up to 520* images per charge) and wider ISO sensitivity of 100-1600, plus HI-1.

Nikon has just announced a full-featured high-end digicam for photographers not quite ready for a dSLR. The new COOLPIX P5000 offers advanced functions, ease of operation, and high image quality. The P5000 features include a 10MP sensor (1/1.8 ” Type CCD), a 3.5x Zoom-Nikkor glass lens, an optical viewfinder, and a bright 2.5-inch LCD with anti-reflection coating. The P5000 incorporates a new advanced image processing engine, which optimizes low light performance and color reproduction, and Nikon’s optical VR image stabilization, which compensates for camera shake.

The VR stabilized images are displayed on the 2.5-inch LCD (wide viewing angle) making it easier to frame and capture images. Another advantage of the optical VR image stabilization is that it helps achieve smoother action in the movie shooting modes of the P5000 and when using the optional TC-3ED Tele converter that extends to 378mm.

The COOLPIX P5000 features a new advanced image processing engine with enhanced noise reduction and an improved signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio that preserves image quality even when shooting at high ISO settings. The P5000 has an extended sensitivity range to ISO 3200 (5MP or lower), which makes it possible to capture fast moving subjects even in lower light conditions.

The P5000 has 26MB of internal memory and accepted a SD/SDHC card (optional). The camera is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion Battery EN-EL5 (supplied).

Nikon has added two new stylish digicams to the Nikon COOLPIX Style Series line-up, the S50 and S50c. The COOLPIX S50 and the COOLPIX S50c boast 7.2 effective megapixels, a 3x Zoom-Nikkor glass lens and a huge, bright 3.0 inch wide LCD screen. Both cameras utilize an Optical VR Image Stabilization system with high sensitivity (up to ISO 1600) and Best Shot Selector (BSS) while the S50c adds the additional advantage of a built in Wireless capability for e-mail and image storage with the enhanced COOLPIX CONNECT 2 service. S50c users can also store up to 2 gigabytes of images and movies to a secure Nikon server, providing a valuable back-up or an opportunity to clear memory from the SD card when capturing images away from home.

Three unique Nikon innovations make it possible to manipulate the images in both cameras enabling amateurs to achieve professional results. Face-priority AF detects people's faces to achieve sharp focus on them, no matter where they happen to be located in the frame; In-Camera Red-Eye Fix tackles this annoying effect by providing automatic compensation for more flattering, natural-looking portraits in low light. Finally, Nikon's unique D-Lighting function improves underexposed images or shots taken with too much back-light, leaving well-exposed areas untouched.

The LCD screen also serves as an excellent platform for Pictmotionâ„¢ which allows users to select their favorite images or movies as well as music (up to 10 songs) and combine them automatically in-camera to produce audiovisual shows in VGA.

The camera is small but the supplied MH-62 battery charger is not (5.7 oz). We recommend purchasing a travel charger (see link below).

The COOLPIX S50 and the COOLPIX S50c will be available in March/April 2007. The S50 and S50c will be priced at $299.95 and $349.95 respectively (US MSRP).

For sharing images, the S500 and S200 have incredible, bright, high resolution 2.5 inch LCD monitors with an anti-reflective coating, easing the composition of photos, even in direct sunlight. Both cameras also have a 16:9 aspect ratio option, making them well-suited for sharing images via a high-definition television.

The COOLPIX S500 and S200 feature several imaging innovations designed to encourage carefree shooting for the consumer. The S200 utilizes Electronic Vibration Reduction (e-VR) Image Stabilization, a feature that electronically overcomes camera shake for sharper results. For greater vibration control, the S500 features Optical VR Image Stabilization, a feature that compensates for camera shake ensuring sharp images at shutter speeds up to three times slower than would normally be possible.

The S500 features a new Anti-Shake button, located on the top of the camera, which activates high ISO, VR and Best Shot Selector (BSS) at the same time to produce clearer results in low light or at telephoto zoom settings.

Advanced performance is particularly pronounced in the S500. Compared to other compact digital cameras, the COOLPIX S500 is fast. Start up time is an amazing 0.6 seconds and shutter lag, in release priority mode, is just 0.005 seconds.

Both the cameras come bundled with Nikon’s exclusive PictureProject software for transferring, organizing, editing and sharing photos. In addition, both cameras are SDHC compatible and utilize the new ultra-compact EN-EL10 rechargeable Li-ion battery.

Nikon Inc. today released an upgrade to its highly acclaimed Capture NX software. Capture NX version 1.1 boasts several new improvements including increased performance, full support for Intel-based Mac OS X computers, and optimization for Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system.

In addition to these advancements Nikon has made several usability updates based on software testing and customer feedback. Capture NX 1.1 now sports a simpler user interface that has added improvements such as resizable palettes for histograms and curves and levels adjustments.
