Panasonic has introduced the LUMIX DMC-LS80, an 8.1MP compact camera with a newly developed LUMIX DC VARIO 3x lens system. The entry level DMC-LS80 digital camera sports a compact design and is powered by AA batteries (alkaline or rechargeable).

The DMC-LS80 continues on the success of Panasonic’s 2007 line of LUMIX digital cameras, by including two advanced anti-blur technologies, Intelligent ISO and MEGA O.I.S. Also, brought over from 2007 is Intelligent LCD technology, which means the brightness of the LCD automatically adjusts as the ambient light level changes.

Main Features

MEGA O.I.S: Gyrosensors detect hand-shake and an Optical Image Stabilizer (O.I.S.) lens system shifts to compensate, preventing hand-shake from creating a blurry image and instead, providing a clear and crisp photo.

Intelligent ISO: With this feature, the digital camera can determine if the photo subject is moving and change ISO setting and shutter speed accordingly, thus enabling a blur-free photo.

Auto Macro: The LS80 automatically switches to the Macro setting when in close proximity to the photo subject, ideal for those extreme close-up shots.

Quick AF: With the Quick AF (Auto Focus) system, the LS80 will focus on the photo subject without the user needing to press the shutter button, producing the fastest shutter speed by minimizing the AF time.

Other Features

Venus Engine III Processor: High-quality, high-performance image processing with the Venus Engine III. Shutter release time lag is as short as 0.005 second¹. In the consecutive shooting mode, it is possible to shoot at 2.5 frames per second in full resolution²; and in High-Speed Burst shooting mode³, the LS80 fires off an incredible 5.5 shots per second. Also, with unlimited consecutive shooting, the user can shoot photos continuously until the SD Memory Card is full ⁴.

High Definition Compatible: The LUMIX LS80 is able to take 1920×1080 pixel photos, ideal for viewing on wide-screen (16:9) High Definition televisions (compatible with all Panasonic VIERA line of Plasma and LCD HDTVs).

Video Recording: In addition to recording standard VGA (640 x 480), the DMC-LS80 can also record WVGA (848 x 480) motion pictures at 30 frames per second (fitting a wide-screen HDTV perfectly).

Panasonic has introduced the LUMIX DMC-FZ18, an 8.1MP compact camera with an impressive 18x optical zoom lens. The DMC-FZ18 joins the LUMIX DMC-FX33 and DMC-FX55 as the first Panasonic digital cameras to offer the Intelligent Auto Mode, which include Face Detection, Intelligent Scene Selector and Continuous Auto-focus functions, allowing users to easily capture clear, professional-quality images in any situation.

The DMC-FZ18 is also equipped with a 2.5-inch large, high-resolution LCD with 207,000 pixels, a 0.44-inch Electric Viewfinder with 188,000 pixels, f/2.8 lens and is powered by the high-performance, Venus Engine III, which allows shooting at ISO 1600 in the normal recording mode.

Blurring is well-controlled by the Intelligent Image Stabilization system, which combines MEGA Optical Image Stabilization (O.I.S.) to compensate for hand-shake and Intelligent ISO Control to detect and adjust for motion blur caused by subject movement.

The body has been redesigned to make the camera more stylish and easier to use. The auto focus, auto exposure lock, and Macro buttons are now independent, to allow quick and direct operation, a metal-finished mode dial adds design strength and an enhanced rubber grip makes the camera easier to hold. The redesigned body also incorporates the joystick made popular by the DMC-FZ8 model, which enables a host of settings, such as manual focusing and exposure, to be done more quickly and easily.

The DMC-FZ18 stores images on SD/SDHC memory cards (includes 27MB of internal memory) and is powered by a lithium-ion battery (battery and charger included).

At PMA 2007, Leica USA announced its newest camera – the C-LUX 2. In size and features, the C-Lux 2 and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX30 are nearly the same. The LEICA C-LUX 2, however, has that unmistakable Leica look and feel – and is $150 more expensive. To justify its higher price, Leica bundled a 64MB SD card as well as a copy of Adobe Photoshop Elements.

In conjunction with PMA07, Panasonic has announced a new, ruggedized SD Memory Card Camcorder. The SDR-S10 features water-resistant and dust-proof construction without any moving parts in its image capturing and storage process. Panasonic has introduced two new Lumix digital cameras, each featuring a 28mm wide-angle Leica DC lens (equivalent to 28-280mm on a 35mm film camera). The DMC-TZ3 boasts 7.2MP and a large, 3.0-inch LCD, and the DMC-TZ2 has 6.0MP and a large, 2.5-inch LCD. The TZ3 and TZ2 are the latest members of the Lumix TZ family of digital cameras, which is renowned for packaging a remarkable 10x optical zoom lens in a compact, stylish body.

The TZ3 and TZ2 are successors to the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1. The new TZ3 and TZ2 go a step beyond their predecessor by featuring a 28mm wide-angle LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens. While the 10x zoom lets you take close-up shots even when you cannot move closer to your subject, the wide-angle lens is helpful in situations where you cannot step back or move away from the subject.

The TZ3 and TZ2 incorporate a 1/2.35" (TZ3) or 1/2.33" (TZ2) CCD with a total of 8.50MP (TZ3) or 7.39MP (TZ2). These CCDs, larger than those in conventional 7MP and 6MP class cameras, can reproduce images shot with the lens set from 28mm to 280mm in any of three aspect ratios - 4:3, 3:2 or 16:9.

This happens automatically, so you can shoot without the bother of adjusting settings every time conditions change.

Panasonic has introduced a new 7.2MP Lumix digital camera, featuring a powerful 12x optical zoom lens (LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT) with f/2.8 brightness. The DMC-FZ8 is an enhancement of the DMC-FZ50 which is currently popular among demanding amateur photographers. The new model enhances mobility with its compactness and easy joystick operation.

The DMC-FZ8 boasts a large, 2.5-inch LCD with full 207,000-pixel resolution for easy viewing. The pixel-mixed readout method used by the CCD automatically increases the brightness of the live image on the LCD, making it much easier to shoot in low lighting. Shooting outdoors in bright sunshine is no longer a problem thanks to the Power LCD function which boosts the LCD backlighting by 40%. The High Angle mode (easily via a dedicated button) makes the LCD screen extremely easy to view when the camera is held high, such as to shoot over a crowd.

Panasonic redesigned the FZ8 throughout to make it more stylish. A 27MB built-in memory supplements large-capacity SDHC memory cards. A re-designed metal mode dial adds further strength. Battery life allows about 380 photos on a single charge (CIPA). And, the FZ8 can save image data in the RAW file format which can be edited and developed with included software or other 3rd party applications.
