SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. has announced the Xacti VPC-WH1 – Waterproof, High-Defintion Dual Camera. The Xacti VPC-WH1 has earned the highest possible IEC 60529 waterproof rating (IPX8/IPX5) allowing users to capture high-definition (1280×720px) 30fps video without worrying about the effects of water or snow. The Xacti VPC-WH1 is operable down to a water depth of 3 meters (10 feet). Unlike the Xacti VPC-CA9, the Xacti VPC-WH1 has the shape of compact camcorder.

The Xacti VPC-WH1 acts as a high-definition video camcorder and a high-resolution camera. It retains full still photo functionality which has been improved from previous models to allow shooting of 2MP photos at 13fps.

Sanyo has announced the Xacti DMX-HD800, a replacement for last year’s popular Xacti DMX-HD700. The new HD800 has the same compact size as its predecessor, but Sanyo expects improved image quality due to the new three-dimensional digital noise reduction filter and a switch from a 7.38MP CCD sensor to the 8MP CMOS sensor.

Sanyo has announced a new high definition camcorder in it’s popular Xacti line. It is claimed to be the smallest and lightest 720p camcorder on the market. The Xacti HD700 is small, however, it is equipped with a large 1/2.5″ CCD yielding an amazing 7.1MP.

One downside of the small size is a shortened optical zoom of only 5x, one-half the zoom power of the lowest average zoom for a normal-size camcorder. The Xacti HD700 lens has an aperture range of f/3.5 – 4.7, with a focal range of 6.3 – 31.7mm (35mm equiv= 38 – 190mm).

The new Xacti HD700 also doubles as a still camera offering face detection (up to 12 faces at once), ISO settings up to 3200, and a built-in flash.

According to Sanyo, the Xacti HD700 uses the same new optical processing engine found in the previously announced Sanyo HD1000, which is unique in its ability to process images quickly with lower power consumption.

In addition to utilizing Sanyo’s proprietary H.264 codec, the camera only needs 4.0 watts of power, made possible through the combination of two engine chips into one single and miniaturized fast-processing image engine.

The Xacti HD1000 features a 10x optical zoom and an f/1.8 - 2.5 lens. The focal range is 6.3 - 63mm (35mm equiv = 49.7 - 497mm in movie mode, 38 - 380mm in still mode). Still images up to 8MP (3264 x 2448) can be saved to the card, though that image is an interpolated blow-up from its native 4MP resolution (2288 x 1712).

The Xacti HD1000 comes with an image stabilizer that works for both stills and video. It uses a proprietary Sanyo algorithm compensating for distracting up-and-down or side-to-side camera movement during video shooting, keeping your subject steady and easy to follow. It can accurately distinguish between unintentional camera shake and deliberate camera movement.

High-definition and photos are recorded directly to a standard SD or SDHC Memory Card (up to 8GB). When connected to the computer via the USB cable, the HD1000 acts as a standard card reader transferring images and videos to your computer.

The ultra-compact Xacti E1 can record high-quality video and 6MP stills photos underwater³ to a depth of five feet for up to one hour at a time.
